Promenades

The concert offers a sonic journey through very different languages and sensibilities, all enhanced by the brilliant and versatile ensemble of flute, violin and piano.

It opens with Ian Clarke‘s Maya, a piece that combines extended technique and contemporary lyricism: suspended atmospheres, unexpected timbres, and evocative writing that explores all the nuances of the modern flute.

This is followed by the refined Suite en trio Op. 59 by Mel Bonis, one of the most original French composers of the late 19th century. The Serenade, Pastorale and Scherzo sketch an elegant and intimate world, rich in impressionistic colors and balanced dialogues between the three instruments.

With Bohuslav Martinů ‘s Promenades the path becomes more lively and edgy: short pictures full of rhythm, neoclassical spirit and brilliant timbral ignitions, in which the trio becomes a real engine of energy.

The program continues with Dmitri Shostakovich‘s Five Pieces, presented in a version for flute, violin and piano. Short movements of extremely varied character – now lyrical, now dancing or ironic – that retain all the communicative power of the great Russian composer’s language.

The concert closes with Nino Rota‘s Trio, an elegant and immediate page suspended between classicism, singable melodies and refined cinematic atmospheres-a luminous finale that combines grace, nostalgia and harmonic refinement.
