Third appointment of the “Domenica Classica” review with Giordano Ferla, a pianist of great interpretative skills and already a guest of “Domenica Classica,” who surprises us once again with the variety and commitment of the program he offers to the Roman public this year. The program consists of two parts, classical-romantic and twentieth-century.
Opening with the Chaconne in G Major Op. 435, an exotic origin theme by Georg Friedrich Händel, followed by Franz Schubert ‘s 1823 Sonata in A minor, inaugurating the series of seven extraordinary Last Sonatas. Closing this first part is the Ballade No. 1 op. 23 , the most famous and wonderful of Fryderyk Chopin‘s 4, from 1835, a masterpiece of piano production of all time.
The second part, devoted to the 20th century, opens with two preludes by Sergei Rachmaninov: Prelude No. 7 op.23, among the most technically difficult, while Prelude No. 5 op.32 offers an incipit like a fairy tale, and a very sweet, affirmative female tessitura song to which a grave, male voice responds. The program continues with a contemporary composer, Robert Spearing, whose Mo. Ferla performs, as a world premiere, Three Welsh Pictures. The concert concludes with the Three Movements from Igor Stravinsky ‘s“Petruska ,” a 1911 composition for large orchestra with concertante piano.
